Q:Question about micaceous clay
microwave and haven't been able to find an answer.
Can you tell me?
A: The problem is that the
microwaves heat up water, micaceous clay will have a lot of water in
it as it is soft fired and not waterproof. This water will get very
hot, making the pot very hot, as hot as the food. If the water turns
to steam and can't get out the pot may explode.
I put a very dry, fired, test tile in the
microwave for 30 seconds and it was unaffected.
Q: How hot do i fire mica
clay and still keep the burnish?
A: We recommend a maximum temp of cone 08, higher than that and the
shine fades.
